The new Mercedes-Benz EQS - noise and vibration comfort

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The EQS is the all-electric member of the S-Class family. This means that it has to meet the highest standards in terms of noise comfort. The specifications therefore already defined a number of measures, including special acoustic foams in some of the body-in-white profiles and encapsulation of the eATS at the front and rear. The drive units are doubly decoupled via rubber bearings. On the front axle, this was realized with a support frame, and on the rear axle with the aid of a driving bogie. Even the design of the electric drive trains (eATS) takes into account noise and vibration comfort (NVH - Noise, Vibration, Harshness). For example, the magnets inside the rotors are arranged in an NVH-optimized way (so-called sheet metal cut). This also reduces the use of rare earths. The shape of the winding, the so-called stator taper, also supports vibration comfort, especially at low speeds. The windings in the stator are arranged at an angle in relation to the permanent magnets in the rotor. Otherwise, so-called cogging moments could occur there. These would lead to fine but unpleasant vibrations at very slow speeds.
