"Duck-rumped", "RS" or "2.7er". The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 has many nicknames today. Its significance is unique: It was the fastest German production car in its day and the first production model with a front and rear spoiler - the latter gave it the nickname "Entenbürzel". In 1972, Porsche thus established a trend - that of rear spoilers on production cars. Around 50 years ago, Porsche began developing the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. "The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was intended as a homologation vehicle. It was to be a very light, fast sports car," recalls Peter Falk, then head of testing for production vehicles at Porsche. Even though the model variant was based on the 911, it became a new basic vehicle for racing and rallying with many technical innovations. The most powerful model in the first generation of the 911 is the first 911 to be given the epithet "Carrera" - as the crowning glory of the Porsche range. Weight, aerodynamics, engine and chassis are worked on intensively. Around 15 engineers develop the car from May 1972, joined by production staff.
