BMW i4 - Inspiring driving dynamics, superior overall harmony

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The BMW i4 is the brand's first purely electrically powered model, which has been consistently designed with driving dynamics in mind from the outset. Two model variants are available for its market launch. The drive system of the BMW i4 M50 consists of one electric motor on the front and one on the rear axle, which together generate a maximum output of 400 kW/544 hp. This allows the BMW M automobile to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Its range, determined in the WLTP test cycle, is up to 521 kilometers. The BMW i4 eDrive40 combines a 250 kW/340 hp electric motor with classic rear-wheel drive. It accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a range of up to 591 kilometers according to WLTP. The compact drive units are elastically mounted in the respective axle carriers. With a cell height of just 110 millimeters, the extremely flat high-voltage battery is located deep in the vehicle floor and is firmly connected to an aluminum thrust field and the front axle beam. The torsionally stiff and weight-optimized body, a CW value of 0.24, a long wheelbase and wide track widths create ideal conditions for typical BMW sportiness combined with high travel comfort. In addition, the BMW i4 is characterized by an overall vehicle harmony that is unique in the competitive environment. Its performance characteristics extend far beyond the rapid straight-line acceleration of a high-performance electric vehicle and include an always confident forward momentum and precisely controllable handling, even in particularly demanding driving situations. In addition to the vehicle concept, which is consistently geared to sportiness, the integrated application of all drive and chassis components also contributes to this.
