BMW iX - Electric all-wheel drive, perfectly balanced driving characteristics

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The model variants offered at the market launch of the BMW iX feature electric all-wheel drive with one electric motor on the front and one on the rear axle. In the BMW iX xDrive50, they generate a system output of 385 kW/523 hp and ensure acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The maximum power mobilized by the drive system of the BMW iX xDrive40 is 240 kW/326 hp and enables the sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. A BMW M automobile with even higher output will be added to the model range at a later date. Thanks to its efficient drive technology and the high energy density of its high-voltage batteries, an adequate range can also be achieved for long-distance journeys. The values determined in the WLTP test cycle are up to 630 kilometers for the BMW iX xDrive50 and up to 425 kilometers for the BMW iX xDrive40. The body structure, design principle and chassis tuning of the BMW iX are designed to combine superior ride comfort with sporty handling characteristics. Its perfectly balanced driving characteristics make it appear both solid and comfortable as well as agile and light on its feet. The aluminum spaceframe concept and the carbon cage with CFRP in the roof, side and rear sections optimize weight. Extensive aerodynamic measures ensure a CW value of 0.25. The electric all-wheel drive is combined with the fast and precise actuator-based wheel slip limitation system. The chassis technology can be supplemented with optional dual-axle air suspension, integral active steering and a sports braking system.
