Two electrified engines are available for propulsion: a 1.3-liter gasoline engine with mild hybrid system offered in two output levels (140 hp and 158 hp) and, at a later date, the e-POWER system offered for the first time in Germany and Europe. 1.3-liter gasoline engine with mild hybrid: The 12-volt mild hybrid system in the new Nissan Qashqai is an affordable hybrid technology that offers noticeable benefits in torque development as well as stop-start automatic. The use of the ALiS (Advanced Lithium-ion System) mild hybrid increases the overall vehicle weight by just 22 kilograms and provides savings in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (minus 4 grams/kilometer). While the CO2 figures are thus at a competitive level, the powertrain in the Qashqai is among the best in the segment in terms of power and torque. When the vehicle decelerates, kinetic energy is recovered and stored in the lithium-ion battery. This energy is then used specifically to save fuel: when the engine is restarted by the automatic stop-start system, by switching off the engine early when coasting in the automatic variants, and by providing additional torque when accelerating. For example, the gasoline engine shuts down early at speeds below 18 km/h and with the brakes activated, extending the duration of the engine stop and additionally saving fuel. During this time, the on-board electronics are powered by the electricity stored in the lithium-ion battery. The 1.3-liter gasoline engine with mild hybrid is offered in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission or an Xtronic automatic transmission (158 hp only). The automatic offers the best of both worlds: During part-load operation, for example in city traffic, it offers the comfort of smooth acceleration at constant engine speed. When instant acceleration is required, the transmission immediately finds the optimum gear ratio.
