The first BMW iX - Perfectly balanced driving characteristics

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The body structure, design principle and chassis tuning of the BMW iX are designed to combine superior ride comfort with sporty handling characteristics. The aluminum spaceframe concept and the carbon cage with carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the roof, side and rear sections form an intelligent mix of materials that combines increased rigidity with optimized weight. Efficiency and range also benefit from the optimized aerodynamic properties, which help the BMW iX achieve a CW value of 0.25. The high-voltage battery positioned low in the underbody lowers the vehicle's center of gravity and promotes agile handling as well as balanced axle load distribution. The perfectly balanced driving characteristics make the BMW iX appear both solid and comfortable as well as agile and light on its feet. The standard chassis technology of the BMW iX includes a double-wishbone front axle, a five-link rear axle, stroke-dependent shock absorbers and electric steering with Servotronic function and variable ratio. A dual-axle air suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, integral active steering and a sports braking system are offered as options. 20-inch alloy wheels are also standard. Alternatively, Air Performance wheels in 21- and 22-inch sizes are available. They can be fitted with noise-reduced tires, on the inside of which a foam layer optimizes acoustic comfort.
