Porsche GTS - three letters synonymous with emotion and sportiness

The Porsche range is colorful and varied. Numbers and letters play an important role within the broad model portfolio. The abbreviation "911" is at least as famous as the brand itself. But there are other differences - such as the three letters GTS, which stand for Gran Turismo Sport. What began almost six decades ago with the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS is today the common trademark of an impressive phalanx. Because Porsche now offers GTS models in all series: as synonyms for emotion and sportiness. As particularly dynamic, sporty and emotional derivatives, equipped with a perfect balance of performance and suitability for everyday use. “Every Porsche is fit to race.” This was the maxim Ferdinand Alexander “Butzi” Porsche put forward more than 60 years ago. And based on this premise, in 1963 he drew and designed a mid-engine coupé for the road and the race track: the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS with 132 kW (180 hp). The two-door two-seater with an interior reduced to the bare essentials celebrates its premiere on November 26, 1963 at the Solitude in Stuttgart. It was the first sports car from Zuffenhausen to have a plastic body – and it impressively demonstrated its technical expertise in the years that followed. On the race track, of course, where it won the manufacturers' world championship in the GT class up to 2,000 cm³ twice, in 1964 and 1965. In addition, there was a victory in the 1964 Targa Florio in Sicily, a second place in the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally and successes in mountain races. However, the 904 Carrera GTS is also approved for the road as a small series. Last but not least, it impresses with its easy handling and exemplary implementation of Porsche's claim to bring motorsport technology to the road
