The new Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited 4xe - Technology

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's 4xe powertrain integrates two electric motors and a 400-volt battery with an efficient turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine and TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. This configuration maximizes the efficiency of the hybrid powertrain components and combines them with the Wrangler's world-renowned and proven powertrain to deliver 280 kW (380 hp) of system output and 637 Newton-meters of torque. The powertrain components are: 2.0 T-GDI inline four-cylinder gasoline turbocharged engine Engine-mounted high-voltage motor/generator High-voltage motor/generator integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission (ZF 8P75PH) Lithium-ion, nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack with 400 volts, 17 kilowatt-hours capacity and 96 cells The 2.0 T-GDI turbocharged engine is part of the Stellantis Group's Global Medium Engine family. The state-of-the-art direct-injection gasoline engine uses a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger mounted directly on the cylinder head, along with a cooling water circuit for the turbocharger, intake air and throttle body. At the front of the engine, a liquid-cooled high-voltage motor-generator unit replaces the conventional alternator and starter simultaneously. A belt connects the motor-generator to the engine's crankshaft pulley. The motor-generator provides additional torque to the drive, turns the crankshaft for nearly seamless, fuel-efficient start-stop operation, and generates charging current for the high-voltage battery. To power electric accessories, the Wrangler 4xe is equipped with a 12-volt on-board battery.
