Production of the fifth-generation high-voltage batteries and battery modules used in the BMW iX* and BMW i4 starts at the BMW Group Competence Center E-Drive Production in Dingolfing. At the same time, capacities for the production of the fifth-generation electric motor will be increased. This has been produced in Dingolfing for the BMW iX3 since 2020 and will also power the BMW iX and BMW i4 in the future. "We expect at least 50 percent of the vehicles we deliver to our customers worldwide to be electrified by 2030. To achieve this, we are relying on our high level of in-house expertise in powertrain production: We are increasing capacity at existing production sites for powertrains - such as here in Dingolfing - and opening up others - such as Regensburg and Leipzig recently," explains Dr. Michael Nikolaides, Head of Production Engines and E-Drives. The BMW Group is investing more than 500 million euros in the expansion of production capacities for e-drives at the Dingolfing site alone between 2020 and 2022. From as early as 2022, e-drives for more than half a million electrified vehicles will be produced there. In total, the BMW Group is investing around 790 million euros in expanding its capacities for electric drive components at the Dingolfing, Leipzig, Regensburg and Steyr sites from 2020 to 2022.
