A diesel in three power ratings and a gasoline engine in two variants make up the engine range of the new Citan at market launch. Common strengths are good drivability even at low engine speeds and favorable consumption values. The engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standards. All engines are combined with an ECO start/stop function. In addition to the six-speed manual transmission, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is also available for the more powerful diesel and gasoline models. Particularly fuel-efficient: the diesels The basic features of the four-cylinder diesel (OM 608) in the new Citan are familiar from the Mercedes-Benz compact car family. Its technological building blocks include the exhaust gas turbocharger with variable turbine geometry integrated into the exhaust manifold. This is adjusted by an electric actuator, resulting in a more spontaneous response of the turbocharger compared with conventional pneumatic control. The intake air is cooled by a water charge air cooler. The two four-cylinder gasoline engines (M 200) also feature turbocharging and direct injection. The boost pressure is controlled electronically. This allows the turbocharging to be controlled even more precisely, which benefits responsiveness, especially in the part-load range. Other highlights of the aluminum engines include the coating of the inner surfaces of the cylinders with a mirror-smooth iron-carbon alloy applied by arc-wire spraying. Microfine pores in the surface, in which the oil is deposited, ensure lubrication.
