New Opel Insignia - top technologies and top engines - making Insignia driving fun

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

Top technologies dominate the Insignia image, not only for the assistance and infotainment systems, but also for the state-of-the-art drive solutions. This is because all three and four-cylinder engines are now part of a completely new generation that reduces fuel consumption by up to 18 percent compared to the previous model. The 1.5-liter diesel with 90 kW/122 hp will form the basic engine at the sales launch, a basic gasoline engine will follow in the next few months. The three-cylinder engines are up to 50 kilograms lighter than the comparable engines of the predecessor model. Above this, the Insignia's two-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 147 kW/200 hp and the GSi's 169 kW/230 hp rank above this. The two two-liter gasoline engines are the first Opel engines with cylinder deactivation. If there is only a low load, the variable camshaft control system deactivates two cylinders, thereby significantly reducing fuel consumption. The 128 kW/174 hp two-liter four-cylinder diesel engine will be added to the portfolio right from the market launch. New, low-friction transmissions also contribute to lower fuel consumption and increase driving comfort at the same time. There is a choice of six-speed manual, eight- and nine-speed automatic transmissions and, later on, a particularly economical continuously variable automatic.
