Strong wind provides spectacle in the final: GKA Freestyle World Cup Tarifa 2021

After a long break, the kiteboarding elite returned. The GKA Freestyle World Cup Tarifa took place as the first official event in 2021 in the European kiteboarding metropolis. Tarifa is the southernmost point of Spain where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. Two opposing wind currents provided strong gusts between 74 - 92 Km/h on the final day. Extremely challenging conditions for the 40 world class athletes from 16 nations. Due to the difficult conditions the jurors decided for the format "pure Big-Air". Only one kiteboarder was allowed on the water to ensure the safety of the athletes. In total, the athletes delivered 7 tricks, whereby only the best 3 were included in the scoring. In the women's category, the young favorite Mikaili Sol from Brazil won the title without any problems. Pippa Van Iersel from the Netherlands finished in second place ahead of Hannah Whitely from Great Britain. In the men's event, Frenchman Artur Guillebert caused a surprise. He took the first World Cup Sieh of his career with consistently good performance. Second place went to the Italian World Tour rookie Jeremy Burlando, followed by the Australian Ewan Jaspan.
