Renault Scenic Vision - Future-oriented drive technology

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The Scenic Vision's drive technology is just as future-oriented as its design. The study features a hybrid drive system consisting of a state-of-the-art, externally excited synchronous motor with 160 kW/218 hp, a compact battery with 40 kWh capacity and a fuel cell with 16 kW/22 hp that runs on green hydrogen and supplies energy to charge the battery. The advantage of the electric-hydrogen hybrid technology is the significantly shorter refueling times than are required to charge a traction battery. A refueling stop at a hydrogen station can be completed in five minutes, ideal for long trips. For everyday journeys, the Scenic Vision functions like a conventional electric vehicle and does not use the fuel cell. For longer journeys, a route planner calculates the proportion of power that the fuel cell must take over so that the user does not need to recharge the battery. When he parks the vehicle at his destination, he can plug it back into the charging station. Another advantage of the fuel cell: In cold weather, the system ensures that the battery reaches the optimum operating temperature more quickly.
