The new Ferrari 812 Competizione - Powertrain

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A are equipped with the most spirited V12 on the automotive scene, descended from the multiple award-winning engine of the 812 Superfast. The result is a naturally aspirated 830-horsepower engine that pairs impressive power with electrifying power delivery and the inimitable soundtrack that Ferrari V12 purists know best. To increase the power of the engine, which has the same 6.5-liter displacement as the V12 in the 812 Superfast, several areas have been significantly revised to set a new redline record while optimizing the flow dynamics of the intake system and combustion and reducing internal friction. Maximum revs are now at 9,500 rpm, which, along with the crescendo of torque, unleashes a sense of progressive and limitless power and acceleration. This has been achieved through the careful redesign of key engine components such as connecting rods, pistons, crankshaft and distributor. The titanium connecting rods are 40% lighter than the steel versions while maintaining the same mechanical strength; the piston pins, in turn, have been given a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating to reduce the coefficient of friction in favor of performance, fuel economy and wear. This is complemented by a rebalanced crankshaft, which is also 3% lighter than the previous version.
