The new Mercedes EQE - the chassis

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The chassis of the new EQE with a four-link axle at the front and a space-link axle at the rear is closely related in design to the new S-Class. Rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 10 degrees is available as an option for great handling in the city and agility over land. The EQE is also optionally available with AIRMATIC air suspension with ADS+ continuous adjustment damping. On the front axle, the EQE has the proven four-link axle. Its space-link rear axle is designed for integration of the rear-axle steering system. The suspension bearings and the elastomeric bearings of the rear axle struts have been improved in extensive simulations and driver tests with regard to NVH and handling characteristics. The optional AIRMATIC air suspension is particularly responsive. It combines air springs and adaptive ADS+ dampers, the characteristics of which can be individually adjusted at each wheel under fully automatic control, with separate rebound and compression damping. Sophisticated sensor technology and algorithms adjust the dampers according to the road surface so that, for example, driving over a bump with just one wheel does not transfer the bump to the entire axle and passenger compartment. The spring and damper are combined in a single strut on the front axle.
