Why the USA celebrates Olive Day today

Source: Flying Media (Glomex)

The USA celebrates June 1 as its National Olive Day. But why does the olive get its own holiday? With today's National Olive Day, Americans celebrate one of the oldest cultivated plants in human history. About 4000 BC ago, the olive tree was already cultivated on Crete and in Syria. Olives are considered healthy because of their high content of unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, folic acid and pantothenic acid. Olives can also be used for cosmetic purposes.
