The new Lexus LBX - Strong structure, chassis and suspension

Source: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

The strength of the body benefits from structural adhesives and short seam welding - particularly around the rear door openings - as well as the strategic placement of bracing and reinforcements. At the same time, lightweight components such as an aluminum engine hood as well as wheel arches, sills and lower door sections made of synthetic resin ensure a low center of gravity and optimum fuel efficiency. Strong but lightweight hot-molded materials were used for the center pillars and bumper reinforcement. A thin roof panel provides further weight savings. The underbody features numerous laser screw welds and high-strength adhesive reinforcements. Reinforcements on the underbody effectively reduce vibrations. The suspension has been designed for optimum steering behavior. Revised MacPherson struts are used on the front axle to ensure agile handling. Front-wheel drive vehicles have a torsion beam axle at the rear, while all-wheel drive models are equipped with a double wishbone design with trailing arms that supports the E-Four system.
