The new Ferrari 296 GTB - Powertrain

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

The 296 GTB is Ferrari's first road car to feature a V6 turbocharged engine with a 120° V between the cylinder banks, coupled to a plug-in electric motor. This new V6 engine was designed and built specifically for this car and is the first from Ferrari with the turbochargers located inside the V. This particular architecture not only brings significant benefits in terms of packaging, lowering the center of gravity and reducing engine mass, but also contributes to extremely high performance figures. The result is that the new Ferrari V6 sets a new record for specific power output of a production vehicle at 221 hp/l. Since the V6 turbo is coupled with an electric motor in the rear, the combined maximum output of the 296 GTB is 830 hp, which puts it at the top of the rear-wheel-drive sports car segment and also makes it extremely flexible. This applies to both everyday driving (the 296 GTB has a range of 25 km in electric mode) and driving pleasure (the accelerator pedal responds instantly and smoothly at all speeds).
