Suarez of Inter Miami receives three-game suspension for spitting

The striker of Inter Miami, Luis Suarez, has been suspended for three games by Major League Soccer for spitting on a Seattle Sounders staff member after the Leagues Cup final. Suarez was seen spitting on Sounders' security staff Gene Ramirez after his team's 0-3 loss at Lumen Field in Seattle. The 38-year-old was also suspended for six games by Leagues Cup officials, ruling him out for the entire next season. "It was a moment of great tension and frustration, where things happened immediately after the game that should not have happened. But that does not justify my reaction. I behaved wrongly and sincerely regret this," explained Luis Suarez on social media. Suarez will miss Miami's games against Charlotte FC, Seattle, and DC United before returning against New York City FC on September 24. MLS also revoked Sounders staff member Steven Lenhart's access for the rest of the year, preventing him from accessing the team's locker room. Lenhart also received a five-game Leagues Cup suspension, which also imposed a two-game suspension on Miami's Sergio Busquets for a foul on Seattle's Obed Vargas. Inter defender Tomas Aviles was also suspended for three games for his involvement in the post-game altercation. However, neither the 21-year-old nor Busquets received any further penalties from MLS.
