Modular, efficient and innovative: the lithium-ion battery system of the EQS can be flexibly equipped with pouch or hardcase cells. This scalability enables the presentation of different range and performance variants. Depending on the variant, sufficient energy can thus be stored for ranges of up to 770 kilometers according to WLTP. The innovative battery management software developed in-house enables updates over the air (OTA). This means that the energy management of the EQS remains up to date throughout the lifecycle. Battery development is a decisive factor in Mercedes-Benz's electrification strategy. After all, the battery is the heart of an electric car and makes a decisive contribution to, among other things, the range and thus the driving characteristics of the electric vehicle. The EQS marks the launch of a new generation of batteries with significantly higher energy density. The largest battery has a usable energy content of 107.8 kWh (according to WLTP). That is around 26 percent more than in the EQC. The new batteries set standards in terms of performance, efficiency and charging power.

With the standard Performance Battery, the new entry-level model delivers up to 300 kW (408 PS; Taycan with Performance Battery: Fuel consumption combined 0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 0 g/km, Electricity consumption combined 28.0 kwh/100 km) in overboost mode with Launch Control; this increases to an output of up to 350 kW (476 PS; Taycan with Performance Battery Plus: Fuel consumption combined 0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 0 g/km, Electricity consumption combined 28.7 kwh/100 km) with the optional Performance Battery Plus. Nominal power is 240 kW (326 PS) or 280 kW (380 PS) respectively. As the youngest member of the model family, the Taycan includes, right from the start, the new features introduced in the other versions at the model year changeover. For instance, the Plug & Charge function enables convenient charging and payments without the need for cards or an app: as soon as the charging cable is plugged in, the Taycan establishes encrypted communication with the Plug & Charge-compatible charging station. The charging process then starts automatically. Payments are also processed automatically.

EQA is the name of the new entry-level model to the all-electric world of Mercedes-EQ vehicles. The electro-aesthetics of its design are indicative of the Progressive Luxury of the Mercedes-EQ brand. Smart assistants support the driver in many areas: for example with respect to accident avoidance, the anticipatory and therefore particularly efficient operating strategy, and Navigation with Electric Intelligence. In addition, the car features various exceptional Mercedes-Benz functions, such as ENERGIZING Comfort and MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). The EQA is a member of the successful compact car family from Mercedes-Benz. A close relation of the GLA, it delivers all the thrilling characteristics of that vehicle, combined in this case with an efficient electric powertrain. The new EQA is being built in Rastatt (Germany) and Beijing (China). The battery systems for the EQA are supplied by the Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Accumotive in Kamenz. The battery factory in Jawor, Poland, is also preparing to produce battery systems for the compact Mercedes-EQ models. From the spring of 2021, the electric SUV will be available from the European dealerships.
