Mercedes-Benz F 100 in 1991 - a powerful glimpse into the future of the automobile

In retrospect, it's amazing how much future the Mercedes-Benz F 100 research vehicle already had on board in 1991. Whether telephone operation with steering wheel buttons, adaptive cruise control or electronic tire pressure monitoring as well as many attributes of the networked automobile: what seemed utopian three decades ago is now part of the usual equipment of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The research vehicle was unveiled on January 12, 1991, at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, USA, a trade show that had been held since 1907. In the F 100, engineers and designers incorporated more groundbreaking technology than in any of the brand's research vehicles before it. This series of technology carriers is as long as it is impressive. It began with Carl Benz's Patent Motor Car of 1886, which was both the world's first automobile and a test vehicle. And it will not end with the "VISION AVTR" concept car of 2020.
