The new Mercedes EQE - the aerodynamics

For over three decades, the aerodynamicists at Mercedes-Benz have been achieving top values. Currently, the EQS (V297) with a cw value of 0.20, the A-Class Saloon (V177) and the S-Class (V223) with 0.22 are the global record holders for production cars. The special simulation tools and the Mercedes-Benz aeroacoustic wind tunnel commissioned in 2013 make a decisive contribution to this. The EQE also received its fine-tuning there. With its one-bow design and extensive aerodynamic measures, it achieves a very good cw value starting at 0.22. After the EQS, it is the second Mercedes EQ to stand on the modular architecture for large electric vehicles. The electric sedan therefore shares many aerodynamic measures with its big brother - and is thus in the slipstream of the current aerodynamics world champion for production cars. The Purpose design with smooth underbody and mostly closed radiator shutter were a good starting point for flow optimization, although the EQE with shorter front and rear overhangs and standard steel chassis is at a slight conceptual disadvantage.
