Ford Kuga Plug-In Hybrid Is Best Seller Across Europe - Nearly 50 Percent Of Mileage Is Charged The Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) was the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in Europe in the first half of 2021, according to recent data from JATO Dynamics. In April, May and June alone, Ford sold nearly 16,000 Kuga plug-in hybrids across Europe, more than a third more than the next closest competitor in the same period. In June, Ford sold 6,300 Kuga PHEVs in Europe - this is not only a new monthly sales record for this Kuga variant, but also means at the same time that customers demanded the plug-in hybrid drive more than all other Kuga engine versions combined. The battery of the plug-in hybrid vehicles can be charged both by the combustion engine and externally at a public charging station or at a home outlet - meaning that trips in purely electric mode are also possible. The Kuga plug-in hybrid can travel up to 56 kilometers (WLTP) in pure electric mode, and thus locally emission-free, making it ideal for journeys in urban low-emission zones, for example. According to anonymized data collected by Ford, users of a Kuga plug-in hybrid have covered 49 percent of their mileage so far this year using only externally sourced battery power - i.e., electricity that flowed from a public or private outlet.
