With the original BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé having enjoyed significant success, a second-generation model is now being added to the latest 4 Series range. The new four-door coupé captures the imagination with its noticeably enhanced driving dynamics, a sharper design following the BMW brand’s new design language, a refined premium feel for its interior and a host of innovations in the areas of operation and connectivity. In addition to the driving pleasure and sporting elegance for which BMW is renowned, modern functionality is central to this gran coupé concept for the premium midsize segment. Comfortable access to the rear compartment, five full-size seats, a large tailgate and a variable-usage load compartment ensure the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé retains its model-specific skillset in everyday driving and on longer trips. This time around, a performance version of the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé courtesy of BMW M GmbH will be available from the car’s market launch (due to get underway in November 2021) alongside four other model variants. All will be built under a flexible manufacturing process at BMW Group Plant Munich on the same line as the all-electric BMW i4 and the BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring models.
The first Ford Performance crossover - the new Puma ST offers maximum excitement and all the versatility of the Blue Oval models
The new Ford Puma ST introduces, for the first time in Europe, the acclaimed driving dynamics of the Ford Performance range in the crossover segment. Enhanced with the most sophisticated Sports Technologies, including a segment-exclusive Limited Slip Differential (LSD) and Ford's patented force-balancing springs, the Puma ST also offers Drive Modes including Sport Mode and, for the first time in a Ford Performance vehicle, Eco Mode to provide drivers with a choice of driving scenarios. Together, these innovations deliver the exhilarating driving experience that Ford Performance models are known for throughout Europe, while maintaining the comfort and flexibility of the Ford crossover. The Puma ST is powered by a 1.5 EcoBoost engine capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds and dumping 200 hp of power to the ground. The first Ford Performance crossover in Europe is equipped with a custom-tuned chassis: ad hoc configurations of torsional stiffness (twist.beam) anti-roll bar and shock absorbers. The steering has 25% improved responsiveness while the brake size is 17% larger than the standard Puma. Specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires also help deliver the most agile driving experience ever for a Ford crossover.
Production of the high-performance lithium-ion batteries for the EQS SUV and EQE SUV is CO2-neutral. High-performance lithium-ion batteries are assembled into a complete system on a production line around 300 meters long with more than 70 work stations. Using a fully digitalized production process, a variety of components are combined, including up to twelve cell modules and the so-called EE compartment, for the intelligent integration of the power electronics. Up to 600 new jobs will be created in Bibb County. The battery system, which will be fitted to the 7-seater EQS SUV, employs a modular design already seen in the EQS and EQE and uses highly advanced cell chemistry containing nickel, cobalt and manganese in a ratio of 8:1:1. The reduction of cobalt content to around ten percent, in addition to the CO2-neutral production of the batteries, enhances sustainability. With the new plant, Bibb County becomes part of the Mercedes-Benz global battery production network which stretches factories on three continents including in Kamenz, Germany, Beijing China, Bangkok Thailand, Jawor Poland and Stuttgart, Germany. The individual factories supply local vehicle production and, if necessary, are ready for export. Mercedes-Benz is investing more than one billion Euros in the development of the global battery production network.
