What is a wrist fracture?

Source: mediahype (Glomex)

Dr. Jona Ober explains in the video what is meant by a fracture of the wrist.... If you try to break a fall with your hand and the palm of your hand hits the ground, you may suffer a wrist fracture. A wrist fracture is technically called a "distal radius fracture" because it is a fracture of the radius (lat. radius) that is close to the wrist (distal). With 20-25%, the distal radius fracture is the most common fracture and very often affects young people up to the age of 18 - especially in sports such as snowboarding, inline skating, soccer or handball. Wrist fractures are also more common in seniors over the age of 60, as they are generally more susceptible to fractures due to bone loss (osteoporosis).
