Ferrari 296 Speciale - Exterior

From a stylistic point of view, the 296 Speciale has very strong ties to the world of Ferrari racing cars with covered wheels; while the 296 GTB conceals extremely high performance under a refined exterior, the 296 Speciale indeed adopts more radical linguistic codes to make explicit the innovations introduced by Ferrari engineers. For this purpose, the Ferrari Style Center, led by Flavio Manzoni, worked in synergy with all other company departments to maximize the connection between form and function through a careful examination of the set of technical solutions then integrated. The front of the car immediately clarifies the strong sporty and expressive charge of the 296 Speciale, in addition to its evident relationship with the world of competitions. The hood is more hollowed out, thanks to the alternation between full and empty spaces obtained by subtracting volumes. The lower part is characterized by a suspended splitter, a body-colored wing element that visually widens the base of the front and increases its stance, as well as allowing more powerful air intakes to be integrated. The design of the 296 Speciale is extreme, showing all the power of the radiators in taking in air, gaining in dynamism and lightness. The mouth loses the elegant appearance it had on the 296 GTB to show all the power and aggressiveness of the 296 Speciale, opening up and almost revealing a trimaran-like shape supported by external side keels in carbon fiber that establish a continuity of language with ultra-sporty and high-performance cars like the 812 Competizione. Also contributing to an even more decisive expressiveness of the front are the three pairs of louvers symmetrically arranged on the hood, characteristic of Ferrari in special version. The brake air intakes are further hollowed out.
