The new Skoda Fabia - MPI engines developed by ŠKODA AUTO offer more power with less consumption

ŠKODA AUTO is responsible for the development of MPI engines across all brands in the Volkswagen Group. The FABIA's three-cylinder MPI engines with 1.0 liter displacement come from the EVO generation and are 4 kW more powerful than the predecessor engines, with reduced consumption and lower emissions. These improvements have been achieved through an optimized crankshaft drive, including pistons and piston rings, which reduce friction losses. The water circuit around the cylinder head and engine block has been redesigned to provide greater cooling efficiency for the cylinders, combustion chambers and integrated exhaust manifold. The MPI engines in the new FABIA operate on the Atkinson combustion cycle, in which the intake valves close only during the compression stroke of the piston. This forces some of the fuel mixture back into the intake manifold. This reduces the effective compression ratio while maintaining a high expansion ratio of 12:1. The result: the engine consumes less fuel and is therefore more efficient.
