The Mercedes-Benz C-Class - The Success Story - Best Seller for Many Years

The C-Class has been Mercedes-Benz's highest-volume model series over the past decade. Since the introduction of the still current generation in 2014, over 2.5 million units of the sedan and the Estate have been sold. China has been the largest sales market for the C-Class sedan since 2016. In addition, the USA, Germany and the UK have been the best-selling markets for the C-Class sedan and the station wagon over the past ten years. In 2020, the C-Class sedan and the station wagon were delivered to customers in more than 100 markets around the globe. In Germany, by the way, two out of three C-Classes are Estate models. The success story of the C-Class began in 1982, when the Mercedes-Benz Type 190 was introduced as a mid-size vehicle. As it was the smallest vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz model range at the time, it quickly received the nickname "Baby Benz". It is not only with combustion engines - such as the sporty 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution with four-valve engine - that Mercedes-Benz continues to make its mark. In 1990, for example, an experimental car based on the 201 series was presented at the Innovation Market at the Hanover Fair and in 1991 at the Geneva Motor Show in the form of the 190 E Electric. Two permanent-magnet electric motors, each with an output of 16 kW (21 hp) and fed from sodium-nickel chloride batteries, drive one rear wheel each.
