The new Mercedes-Benz EQS - the aerodynamics

The purpose design with a smooth underbody and mostly closed radiator shutter as well as the favorable basic shape with a coupé roof and a long length were a good starting point for optimizing the flow. With a lot of meticulousness, the aerodynamicists were able to achieve the new record drag coefficient of 0.20 in close cooperation with the designers. The frontal area of ​​the EQS is 2.51 m2. This results in an effective air resistance from 0.5 m². The spread of the individual variants in the Cd value is comparatively small - so customers have a large selection of models without having to take the range into account. Mercedes also offers an aero bike that has been optimized in the wind tunnel in sizes 19, 20 and 21 inches. There is a lot of detailed work behind the very good aerodynamic performance. The EQS is the first representative of the new electrical platform. That is why the invisible details, for example on the underbody, have been developed particularly intensively. Several thousand calculation runs were carried out in the virtual wind tunnel alone
