The new S 680 GUARD 4MATIC is certified according to the guidelines of the VPAM (Association of Testing Centers for Attack-Resistant Materials and Structures). Members of the VPAM are independent (neutral) test centers and institutions. The test was carried out by the Ulm Shooting Office, the only testing and certification body for weapons, ammunition and security technology in Baden-Württemberg and one of the most modern institutes of its kind. The new S-Class GUARD meets the requirements of the highest civil protection class VR10 according to the Guideline VPAM BRV version three (Bullet Resistant Vehicles). The body and windows have to withstand fire from an assault rifle with the appropriate steel hard core ammunition. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC also meets the requirements of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). The protection against blasting attacks is documented by the fulfillment of the latest version of the VPAM ERV guideline (Explosive Resistant Vehicles), the test criteria of which are not freely accessible. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC was not only the very first vehicle to complete the current tests, it also achieved top marks in all three tests (roof, floor and side) with three out of three stars. Tucson’s new Plug-in Hybrid model features an estimated 261 horsepower, 1.6-liter turbocharged, direct-injected hybrid powertrain coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Plug-in Hybrid battery is larger than the hybrid battery, with 13.8 kWh of power, yielding an estimated all-electric range (AER) of 32 miles and estimated fuel economy of 70 MPGe. Plug-in Hybrid Level-II charging capability is well under two hours to recharge the system using a 7.2kW on-board charger. The Plug-in Hybrid powerplant delivers power through a PHEV-tuned six-speed automatic transmission for smoothness and efficiency, with an estimated combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg with all-wheel drive. The Plug-in Hybrid even offers an impressive tow rating of 2,000 lbs.
