Audi skysphere concept - home game in California

The Audi skysphere concept will make its public debut on August 13, 2021 as part of Monterey Car Week - on the legendary lawn of the Pebble Beach golf course. The appearance in California is almost a home game. The concept car was conceived and designed in the Audi design studio in Malibu, just a stone's throw away from the Pacific Coast Highway, the legendary coastal road that connects the suburbs of Los Angeles with northern California. Studio manager Gael Buzyn and his team are responsible for the project. The inspiration came from a legendary classic from the company's own history - the Horch 853 roadster. The equally 5.20-long representative convertible not only defined modern luxury in the 1930s, but also won the 2009 Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach. However, the visual inspiration from its forebear is limited to the dimensions and typical proportions with a rather compact cabin and long front end. A look under the hood of the Horch reveals a stately 8-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 5 liters. In the Audi skysphere, on the other hand, between the front axle and the windshield there are mainly components of the e-drive such as the charger and the DC/DC converter, plus the actuators, electronics and mechanics for the adaptive wheelbase. And a voluminous luggage compartment filled with two golf bags specially designed for the concept car.
