On the road in snow and ice, worry-free with Jeep® 4xe models

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

Plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV) in the Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe allows drivers to calmly navigate challenging driving situations during the coldest months of the year, where range, battery charge and safety are put to the test. The eAWD electric four-wheel drive's combination of internal combustion engine and electric motor provides the capability of highly precise torque adjustment when starting and while driving, even in challenging terrain when a low gear ratio is required. The City is the element for the all-electric "Electric" operating mode, for locally emission-free driving with access to even emission-restricted traffic zones. Jeep 4xe models then use only the electric motor to drive the rear wheels, and can travel up to 50 kilometers (31 miles) and reach speeds of 130 kilometers per hour. The combustion engine only engages when necessary, especially during kickdowns, or when the battery level is low. If the road is wet, slippery or icy, Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe become true 4x4 vehicles. The system automatically starts the combustion engine, which drives the front wheels and transforms the vehicle into eAWD. In this hybrid configuration - combustion engine drives the front wheels, electric motor drives the rear wheels - the 4xe Models S and Trailhawk produce up to 177 kW (240 hp) and reach a top speed of around 200 kilometers per hour.
