The SEAT Leon e-HYBRID - How hybrid technology works

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

To maximize the performance of a plug-in hybrid vehicle, a good understanding of the underlying technology is important. A PHEV combines the best of both worlds and has two engines: the internal combustion engine is powered by fuel and the electric motor by the battery, which is charged during braking (recuperation) and by connecting it to a charging point. "The engines can be operated separately, but if the power requirement is higher, they can also be activated simultaneously. The SEAT Leon e-HYBRID achieves an output of 204 hp when both engines are combined," says the head of hybrid and electric drive development at SEAT.
