Vote: drastically higher parking fees possible for visitors to Paris in SUVs

In a referendum this Sunday (February 4), the people of Paris can decide whether parking fees for SUVs in public parking lots should be tripled. The city argues that the heavy vehicles cause increased pollution, take up a lot of public space and endanger road safety. The city council had already been heavily criticized before the vote, for example by the automobile club "40 millions d'automobilistes". In Paris, the fight against SUVs is part of a traffic turnaround that has been driven forward for years by the socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo and the red-green city government.
