2022 Ford Mustang California Special - Classic Design Reinvented

Source: AutoMotoTV (Glomex)

When the now-iconic Ford Mustang first hit the road in 1964, owners' clubs sprang up across America and many regional dealers created their own personalized Mustang designs. One of these special models - inspired by the 1967 Mustang Shelby GT notchback prototype - was called the "California Special." This original version featured a dark grille, fog lights and a racing stripe on the side, as well as a Shelby-inspired spoiler. Inspired by this design, Ford itself produced a limited number of California Special vehicles in 1968. The latest interpretation of the "California Special" - a convertible paying homage to the sunny climate of the "Golden State" and the laid-back lifestyle of Californians - picks up design elements from the original with a honeycomb grille in ebony black and a GT (for Mustang GT) /CS badge (for California Special) in race red, as well as lower side stripes in black, red and gray. The side stripes adorned with GT/CS logos also feature "California Special" lettering that remains nearly invisible in low-light conditions, but stands out clearly in stronger sunlight.
