The new RZ 450e is the first Lexus electric vehicle designed from the ground up. Not only does it feature a battery-electric powertrain instead of a conventional engine, but it also fully exploits the potential of new technologies to enhance performance and driving pleasure in equal measure, true to the "Lexus Electrified" philosophy. First and foremost, the new RZ is a true Lexus - it has all the qualities of performance and craftsmanship for which the brand is renowned. The company has leveraged its extensive experience in electrification to combine the benefits of a battery electric model (BEV) with the brand's signature refinement to create a unique driving experience. This is evident, for example, in the advanced powertrain, which includes optional steer-by-wire steering with a new "one-motion grip" yoke steering wheel and front and rear e-axle drive, which in turn works in conjunction with Lexus' new DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system. A new body platform developed specifically for electric vehicles is the basis for the outstanding driving characteristics of the new RZ 450e; it features high body rigidity, a low center of gravity and a long wheelbase. The powerful lithium-ion battery is fully integrated into the chassis under the vehicle floor; continuous monitoring of the battery status ensures long-term performance.
