For the IONIQ 5 N, N engineers optimized the IONIQ 5's E-GMP architecture for high performance in all driving conditions by taking know-how from the Hyundai i20 N WRC Rallye1 for use on all surfaces. In its eight years of WRC participation, Hyundai has won numerous awards, including two world championship titles. The IONIQ 5 N will be the first production vehicle of the N sub-brand with all-wheel drive. The IONIQ 5 N's dynamic cornering capability is achieved through the N Drift Optimizer, which integrates front and rear torque distribution, torque rate, suspension stiffness, steering effort and the e-LSD (electronically limited slip differential) system to create a driving mode specifically for drifting. The technology supports drivers with different levels of experience in drifting; especially those who want to approach drifting for the first time. With the e-LSD tuned specifically for the IONIQ 5 N, the electronic control unit monitors inputs from the wheel sensors to accurately identify when a particular wheel needs additional torque to improve the vehicle's handling. This means that e-LSD improves handling when cornering and driving at high speeds on the racetrack, as well as in adverse driving conditions such as black ice and heavy snowfall. Designed specifically for the IONIQ 5 N, e-LSD has the same function as a conventional LSD but offers faster response and greater precision, which is particularly important given the faster torque delivery compared to internal combustion vehicles.
