MINI John Cooper Works - The Skeg – Visionary, electric, at home on the coast

Deus Ex Machina moves between the worlds of motorcycle racing and surf culture. The electrically powered showcar "The Skeg" incorporates materials, technologies, and philosophies from the world of surfing: fiberglass, acceleration, and minimalism. The vehicle's bodywork shines in a striking yellow-silver color mix – a statement for electromobility at MINI. At first glance, the widened fenders, roof rear spoiler, and illuminated front grille stand out. Semi-transparent fiberglass components reduce weight by 15 percent while improving aerodynamics through optimized airflow. The Flex-Tip Surf Spoiler enhances aerodynamics by dynamically adapting to airflows – just like a surfboard adjusting to the wave. Like the concave underside of a surfboard that directs water and generates lift, this spoiler channels airflow for optimal aerodynamics. A nod to wave sports technology. The roof attachment straps resemble tie-down straps used to secure surfboards on car roofs, symbolizing the mobility and style that define the surfer lifestyle. Elastic bands, known as straps, are also a characteristic design detail of the new MINI family, used as accents on the dashboard or even mounted on the 6 o'clock spoke of the steering wheel. The custom-made, translucent fiberglass body parts on the roof, front, and rear, as well as in the interior, create a changing play of light: translucent, robust, and responsive to time of day and surroundings. The parts are lightweight and stable at the same time.
