The German national coach Julian Nagelsmann has condemned a survey in which fans were asked whether the national team has enough white players. The ARD found that 21% of the 1,304 survey participants would prefer the German national team to have more white players. "I thought about it briefly and I feel like we need to wake up a bit. There are people in Europe who had to flee due to war, economic factors, environmental disasters, people who simply want to be taken in. We need to ask ourselves what we are doing at the moment," said Julian Nagelsmann. Nagelsmann also echoed the comments of midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who described the survey as "racist." The Bayern star called the survey "racist." Kimmich noted that a football team can unite different cultures, religious backgrounds, and skin colors to work towards a common goal. Nagelsmann also finds it "bizarre" that "we all go on vacation to get to know other cultures, and then other cultures come here and we complain." The 36-year-old concluded that Germany, as the host of the upcoming European Championship, plays for "everyone in the country."
