The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class under the microscope - the in-car apps

Source: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

Until now, apps found their way into the car mainly by being mirrored from the user's smartphone into the infotainment system. Apple Car Play or Android Auto are such systems, which allow some functions of the mobile device to be used on the central display while driving. The software experts at Mercedes-Benz have now developed a new compatibility layer that allows the installation of third-party apps. In addition, the new software architecture will enable apps to find their way into the vehicle more quickly in the future. For example, drivers can use the optional in-vehicle selfie and video camera for the collaboration app "Webex" and the video conferencing app "Zoom". To avoid driver distraction, image transmission is deactivated while driving. A new app store has been integrated into the Mercedes me Store, the range of which is being successively expanded. This keeps the E-Class up to date and allows it to be extensively personalized.
