With a sharpened design, the modernised CLS will arrive in European dealerships in August 2021. The front end in particular, with new radiator grilles and bumpers, expresses the dynamism of the four-door coupé even more strongly. At the same time, the interior has been upgraded with additional leather and trim combinations as well as a new-generation steering wheel. A latest-generation diesel with integrated starter-generator expands the model range. A strictly limited special model of the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+ (combined fuel consumption 9.0-8.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 206-199 g/km) forms the sportily exclusive spearhead. Thanks to a comprehensive update last summer, with upgrades to the driving assistance systems, the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system and ENERGIZING Comfort, the CLS was already up-to-date technologically.
The next generation of adventurers - ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT celebrates start of ordering
With the SCOUT version ŠKODA extends the fourth generation of the OCTAVIA family by a multifunctional lifestyle station wagon with distinctive design features and 15 millimeters more ground clearance. The popular off-road look is created by specific bumpers at the front and rear, each with an underride guard in aluminium design, as well as additional black plastic panels on wheel arches, side skirts and the lower door areas. Further accents are set by the 18-inch Braga light alloy wheels. Silver details on the front and rear diffuser, roof rails, window frames and exterior mirror housings underline the attractive appearance. The OCTAVIA SCOUT has numerous high-quality equipment features. These include, for example, matrix LED headlights with adaptive front headlights, the two-zone climate control, the keyless access and start-stop system KESSY as well as parking sensors at the front and rear. ŠKODA designs the combination rear lamps in crystal glass look with animated turn signals. Also on board: heatable front seats, LED ambient lighting and a heatable multifunction steering wheel - in the 4x4 version this also has shift paddles for the direct shift gearbox. The standard driving profile selection in the diesel version also features an off-road mode.
The exact location of a Mercedes equipped with DRIVE PILOT is determined using a high-precision positioning system that is much more powerful than conventional GPS systems. In addition to the anonymised data collected by LiDAR, camera, radar and ultrasound sensors, a digital HD map provides a three-dimensional image of the road and the surroundings with information on road geometry, route characteristics, traffic signs and special traffic events (e.g. accidents or road works). This high-precision map differs from maps for navigation devices by, among other things, its higher accuracy in the centimetre rather than metre range and its detailed junction and route model. The map data is stored in backend data centres and updated constantly. Each vehicle also stores an image of this map information on board, constantly compares it with the backend data and updates the local dataset as required. All of this enables stable and accurate positioning through a representation of the surroundings that is independent of factors such as shadows or dirty sensors.
