The new Renault Kangoo E-TECH Electric - air conditioning via heat pump

As a further efficiency-enhancing technology, Renault uses a two-zone air conditioning system in the Kangoo E-Tech Electric, which is operated via heat pump. Unlike conventional air conditioning systems, the system draws a large part of the energy for heating from the ambient air. As a result, it requires significantly less energy. The technology, which is familiar from building technology, uses the reverse principle of a refrigerator: During heating, the heat stored in the ambient air is absorbed by a thermal working fluid, compressed by a compressor, raised to a higher temperature level and then used to warm the interior. For cooling, the operation of the heat pump is simply reversed. The optimum efficiency of the heat pump is between minus 15 and plus 15 degrees Celsius. In addition to providing excellent thermal comfort, it keeps the vehicle's range stable. This means up to 85 kilometers more WLTP range. Finally, the heated windshield and steering wheel and seat heating are available for the new Kangoo E-Tech Electric. In addition to the comfort gain, these options require only a small amount of battery power.
