New Nissan X-Trail - e-POWER drive

Source: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

As the second Nissan model in Europe, the X-Trail comes with e-POWER on request. The electrified drive system, offered exclusively by Nissan, creates an all-electric driving experience without the need or possibility of external charging. The system was first introduced in Japan in 2017 in the Nissan Note compact family car, which subsequently became the best-selling car in the domestic market. To meet the typical needs of European drivers and their daily driving habits, e-POWER has been significantly upgraded for the new X-Trail. Its e-POWER system consists of a high-performance battery and an integrated powertrain that includes a 116 kW (158 hp) 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with variable compression ratio, a power generator, an inverter and a 150-kW electric motor. The gasoline engine is used exclusively to generate electricity, while the electric unit always powers the wheels. Drivers benefit from excellent fuel efficiency, as the combustion engine is always operated in the optimum speed range. Thanks to the all-electric drive, there is also no delayed throttle response as with an internal combustion engine or a conventional hybrid. The instantaneous response provides high torque and agile acceleration, making overtaking and merging onto a highway easier.
