Sally, the one-of-a-kind Porsche 911, sold for a record $3.6 million (hammer price) at an auction at RM Sotheby's Monterey on Saturday night. In the charged atmosphere of the packed auction hall, the one-off attracted everyone's attention, and the winning bid came from a telephone bidder. According to the auction house, the price set a record for a new Porsche sold at auction. To mark the sale, members of the original Cars team reunited to create both the car featured in the Disney-Pixar movie and full-size Sally Carrera, based on a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera. That team included actress Bonnie Hunt, the voice of Sally Carrera; Jay Ward, creative director of franchise at Pixar Animation Studios; and Bob Pauley, who first drew Sally as production designer for Cars 20 years ago. Also on hand were Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc (PCNA), and members of the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur special request team, including Alexander Fabig and Boris Apenbrink.
