Optionally, the Audi e-tron S and Audi e-tron S Sportback light up the night with digital Matrix LED headlights - the brand with the four rings unveiled them at the end of 2019 as a world innovation in large-scale production. They use a technology with the abbreviation DMD (Digital Micromirror Device), which is also used in video beamers: the light is broken down into around 1.3 million tiny pixels and can thus be controlled with a new kind of precision, enabling many innovative functions. The most important of these is the lane and orientation light for expressways. Here, the headlights emit a carpet of light up to 50 meters long. It brightly illuminates the driver's own lane and dynamically adapts when changing lanes. Dark corners - areas where light is cut out - show exactly where the car is in the lane. On narrow roads or in construction zones, the new light function intuitively helps the driver stay in the middle of the lane. In addition, the new technology can generate dynamic leaving and coming home animations when the car is unlocked and locked; they appear as projections on a wall or on the floor. With this staging, in which customers can choose from six variants, the space in front of the car becomes a specifically illuminated stage.
