When the snowstorm is so bad that you don't want to put your nose outside - then it's Unimog weather. Equipped with a snowplough and a gritter, it's in its element and it clears snow from roads and access routes – just like here in Rottach-Egern on the Tegernsee. That is where Tobias Maurer is deputy manager of the works depot, and he swears by his U 427 – even in difficult conditions: ""The roadways here have gradients of up to 85 percent. But those are the conditions where the Unimog really feels at home."" The municipal works depot of Rottach-Egern operates not only on flat roads and paths around the lake, but also on the access routes to the ski lifts of the nearby Wallberg mountain. Equipped with snow chains, nothing can stop the forward thrust of the Unimog and it clears snow at a height of 1000 metres. And when the winter is over, the work for the Unimog carries on. It transports gravel to forest tracks, tows a trailer with a building machine to a construction site, or it helps with road construction – just as a true ""universal motor machine"" should.

Mercedes-Benz has been building special-protection vehicles since 1928 and thus for over 90 years. Customers of the new S 680 GUARD 4MATIC benefit from these many years of experience. The integrated protection system (iSS) reaches a new level: whereas the necessary protective materials were previously integrated into the standard body shell structure for the GUARD saloons, a GUARD-specific body shell of protective elements has now been developed. This self-supporting protective cell represents the core of the iSS. Ultimately, the (aluminium) outer skin serves as a design cover and ensures an inconspicuous appearance. In addition to the armouring, the iSS includes the adaptation of the suspension, engine and transmission to ensure handling that is virtually on a par with that of the production vehicle. Due to a parallel development process alongside the large-scale production models, the longevity of the GUARD vehicles also reaches series production level. In addition to the unseen armouring elements, the transparent area of the windows is an integral and essential part of the protection concept. The material and thickness of the multi-layer glass 'sandwich' meet the high requirements of the VR10 safety classification. The inner surfaces of the glass are coated with polycarbonate for splinter protection. Despite their comprehensive protective effect, they offer excellent visibility. And they have been integrated in such a way that they are not noticeable at first glance - another significant advantage of the integrated protection system.
The OCTAVIA RS’s sleek and sporty design and accessories make it unmistakable. Unlike the other OCTAVIA versions, the RS has a reworked front and rear bumper, as well as the RS logo, of course. Many of the body details, such as the radiator grille, front and rear bumper diffusers, external rear-view mirror covers and side window trims have a glossy black paint finish. The RS model’s sporty nature is reflected in its interior as well. Highlights include sports seats with integrated headrests and Alcantara leather upholstery, while a new feature is the multi-function three-spoke steering wheel emblazoned with the RS logo. The pedals feature aluminium décor and parts of the upholstery have decorative red or silver-grey stitching.
