Pakistan "Horror Zoo" Reborn as Rehab Centre
The Islamabad Zoo was once closed due to its unacceptable treatment of animals. Many animals, such as elephants and lions, were neglected and kept in enclosures, underfed and forced to pace back and forth. However, after four years, the zoo became a rehabilitation centre for Pakistani wildlife. Margallah Wild Life Rescue Centre now provides a safe haven for leopard cubs whose mothers were lost, tigers seized from owners who kept them as status symbols, and bears forced to dance or fight for the entertainment of crowds.
