Comparable to video beamers, the digital Matrix LED headlights use DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) technology. Each headlight has approximately 1.3 million micromirrors that break down the light into tiny pixels. This allows it to be controlled with the utmost precision. One of the new functions made possible by this is the lane and orientation light for highways. The upgraded A8 has digital OLED (OLED = organic light emitting diode) taillights on board as standard. The digital OLED taillights have proximity detection in conjunction with the assistance systems.
