The CUPRA Born is the unconventional challenger, delivering electrifying performance using the most advanced electric powertrain technology, seamlessly augmenting the spirit of the CUPRA brand with an electrified future. The CUPRA Born forms the next stage of the brand’s development, and as the industry shifts to a more environmentally conscious position, electrification is key. CUPRA has already invested heavily in the technology, bringing the plug-in hybrid versions of CUPRA Leon, CUPRA Leon Sportstourer and CUPRA Formentor models to the market. The new era is also fully electric. The CUPRA Born integrates the most advanced pure electric powertrain technology: a choice of 150PS (110kW) or 204PS (150kW) electric engines deliver energy to the rear wheels, coupled to a high-performance lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of up to 58kWh provides an enormous range of around 420km. It doesn’t stop there, it goes beyond.
Alpine A521 - Interview Antony VILLAIN, designer
Alpine is arguably the epitome of French motoring, building on remarkable victories throughout its history. It is a brand with heritage and pedigree. It is also a factory with highly skilled specialists manufacturing the A110 in Dieppe. Renault Sport Cars comprises a team of 300 people who are masters at developing sports cars. They gave Groupe Renault iconic products such as the R5 Turbo, Clio V6, Megane RS Trophy and the new Alpine A110. Renault Sport Racing, with its eponymous F1 team, gathers 1,200 people who develop the “grand complication watches of motorsport” with some of the best aerodynamicists, mechanics and powertrain engineers. F1 is also a huge marketing platform with half a billion fans worldwide, thus representing a unique opportunity to enhance Alpine’s branding globally. Alpine will also leverage the scale and capabilities of Groupe Renault and the RNM Alliance including technology with the Alliance EV-native platform, a global manufacturing footprint, a powerful purchasing arm ensuring optimum cost competitiveness, a global distribution network and RCI Bank and Services. The clear objective is to be profitable in 2025 including investment in motorsport.
The Plug-in Hybrid is the second electrified drivetrain in the Sorento line-up and sits alongside the low-emissions Sorento Hybrid. The latest addition to the range blends a powerful 1.6-litre T-GDi Turbocharged Direct injection petrol engine with a high capacity battery pack and high output electric motor, allowing the driver to complete an average daily commute to work purely on all-electric, zero emissions power. And the low CO2 emissions of the all-new Sorento Plug-in Hybrid makes it attractive for business users, thanks to its super low company car Benefit-in-Kind taxation rates. While many plug-in hybrid vehicles result in compromise, the fourth generation Sorento was designed from the beginning to accommodate electrified powertrains and deliver spacious accommodation for up to seven occupants. The larger body and all-new platform ensure that the latest iteration of the Sorento is one of the most spacious, practical and versatile electrified models on the market today.
