It is the heart of every electric vehicle - the high-voltage battery. In the new electric G-Class, a double-decker lithium-ion battery with 216 cells in twelve cell modules is installed between three cooling levels. The battery is integrated into the ladder frame made of up to 4 millimeters thick steel. This ensures a low vehicle center of gravity and makes the overall vehicle significantly more torsionally rigid. To protect it from water and dirt ingress, the battery is housed in a torsionally rigid casing. This makes the new electric G-Class well equipped for ambitious off-road use. The usable capacity of the battery is 116 kWh. Thus, the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology provides sufficient energy for ranges of up to 473 kilometers according to WLTP. The new electric G-Class masters both charging with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). When charging with alternating current, for example at a wallbox, the on-board charger converts the current in the vehicle. It has a maximum charging power of up to 11 kW. For fast charging with direct current, a DC fast charging system with a charging power of up to 200 kW is on board. In this case, the charging time from 10 to 80 percent SoC (State of Charge) is around 32 minutes.
McLaren Automotive, the British manufacturer of luxury, high-performance sportscars and supercars, is expanding its Super Series product family with the introduction of a second new model under the £1.2bn Track25 business plan and its most accomplished convertible supercar ever: the new McLaren 720S Spider. Revealed online on December 8, 2018 and available to order with immediate effect, the new 720S Spider delivers the exhilaration of open-air driving and levels of day-to-day usability unseen in the convertible supercar class. ""The new McLaren 720S Spider offers an unparalleled blend of extreme performance, crafted luxury, driver involvement and daily usability - all with the additional exhilaration of open-air driving whenever required. As the most accomplished convertible supercar ever, the new Spider delivers across a remarkable spectrum of abilities to outstandingly high levels, and as lightest in class with an increase of just 49kg over the 720S Coupé, moves us even further ahead of our competition in the weight race."" Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive The design foundations of the new McLaren Spider are the seamless and organic forms introduced in 2017 with the 720S Coupé. Combining to maximise downforce, minimise drag, enhance powertrain cooling and optimise aerodynamic performance, these shapes produce an overall appearance akin to a futuristic sculpture, formed by the air that flows over, under, around and through it. A new, electrically actuated Retractable Hard Top (RHT) is seamlessly integrated into the design, as are new buttresses.
Nissan unveiled the new Roox wagon-type kei car in Japan. Regularly one of the top-selling models within Nissan’s Japan domestic line-up, the new fourth-generation Roox brings a playful new design, more spacious and upmarket cabin, a suite of innovative driver assistance technologies, as well as quieter and more efficient drive. It is set to go on sale in Japan later this year. The new Roox seeks to redefine the conventional notion of Kei cars by pairing features typically reserved for larger segments with strong value. The range will start at a price of around 1.6 million Japanese yen, with full pricing details and all specifications to be announced closer to the start of sales. The new Roox is based on a design concept of ‘Roomy×Max’ — the inspiration for the name Roox — which emphasizes the maximization of size within kei car regulations. A new signature design motif of a rounded square is incorporated into the headlights, rear combination lamps, door handles, headrests, speedometer and wheels. The motif not only symbolizes spaciousness and size, but through its rounded corners also expresses playfulness. The interior was created around a ‘Breeze concept’ that aims to create a relaxing space with pleasant airflow and light, much like a living room. Nissan’s designers aimed to create a feeling of openness that exceeds the actual space. The playful rounded square motif can be seen on the headrests and speedometer. The dashboard features an available integrated 12.3-inch infotainment display — a first for kei cars — that enhances the sense of advanced technology and quality.
